Each battery operated candle uses 1 AA batteries ( Not included ), tighten or loose the cap on bottom of the battery operated candles for ON/OFF. After you put the batteries in candles, tighten the cap on bottom, the candles will automatic light. And they will run for 6 hours and turn themselves off, then each subsequent day, they come on at the same time that they were initially activated. If you want to shut in some days, you just need to take out the batteries. If you put in the batteries again, they will light again and timer again (open 6 hours and off 18 hours automatic)
